Cybersecurity Breach: Hackers Steal N180M from NGO, Says VeryDarkMan
Social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has reported that approximately ₦180 million was stolen from his NGO’s account following a hacking incident. In a video shared on Instagram on December 27, 2024, VDM stated that the funds were diverted after hackers gained access to the NGO’s website.
He mentioned that law enforcement agencies have tracked one suspect, leading to an arrest, and that the account has been placed on Post No Debit (PND) status to prevent further unauthorized transactions. VDM also noted that the NGO’s app has been temporarily shut down for maintenance to prevent additional security breaches.
The incident has sparked reactions on social media, with some users expressing skepticism about the claim, questioning how hacking a website could lead to the theft of funds from a bank account.
VDM launched the Martins Vincent Osei Initiative in October 2024, focusing on community development and improving public education in Nigeria. The initiative garnered significant support, including a ₦100 million donation from music producer Don Jazzy.
As of now, investigations are ongoing to recover the diverted funds and enhance the security measures of the NGO’s digital platforms.
