
Abia Police Report: Businessman Kidnapped, Aides Slain
Abia State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Chief Obasi Lawson, a prominent oil and gas entrepreneur and Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Petroleum Retailers Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN). The incident occurred on March 5, 2025, in the Azumini community of Abia State.
During the attack, gunmen ambushed Chief Lawson’s SUV, resulting in the deaths of his driver, Anayo Ukwu, and his aide, Mazi Confidence Chijioke. Reports indicate that three police escorts accompanying Chief Lawson managed to escape the assault.
The assailants reportedly targeted Chief Lawson’s vehicle, leading to his abduction and the fatal shooting of his driver and aide.
In response to the incident, the Abia State Police Command has initiated a search operation to locate and rescue Chief Lawson, while efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
The Petroleum Retailers Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has called on the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the search for Chief Lawson, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
