Cocoa Tea Passes Away at 65: A Musical Legacy

Jamaican reggae icon Cocoa Tea, born Calvin Scott, has passed away at the age of 65. He died on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after battling lymphoma since 2019 and recently struggling with pneumonia.

Cocoa Tea was renowned for his smooth vocals and hits like “I Lost My Sonia,” “Sweet Sweet Cocoa Tea,” and “Young Lover.” His music career spanned several decades, earning him international recognition and numerous collaborations with other reggae legends.

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness praised him as a “beacon of kindness and generosity,” highlighting his significant contributions to the reggae genre.

In his final days, Cocoa Tea remained positive, reassuring his wife not to worry about his health. He is survived by his wife, Malvia Scott, and eight children.
