Kanye West Responds to Kendrick Lamar's Playboi Carti Verse

Kanye West Critiques Kendrick Lamar’s New Verse

Kanye West has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with Kendrick Lamar’s contributions to Playboi Carti’s newly released album, Music. Despite having collaborated with Lamar in the past and co-producing the track “Backd00r” on this album, West took to social media to voice his opinion, stating: “I don’t like Kendrick Lamar’s music. He raps very good but I didn’t need to hear him on Carti’s album.”

Playboi Carti’s Music, released on March 14, 2025, features a star-studded lineup, including Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Skepta, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert. Lamar appears on three tracks, showcasing his signature lyrical prowess.

West’s comments have sparked discussions within the hip-hop community. Terrence “Punch” Henderson, president of Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), the label to which Lamar is signed, responded to West’s critique by questioning the necessity of publicly sharing such opinions, especially given their past collaborations.
