Bayelsa: Timaya Speaks Out Against Cattle Herding Issues
state of Bayelsa by cattle herders. In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on March 18, 2025, he urged the government to intervene, stating:
“Pls the government should do something. They are destroying farms in Bayelsa. Aboki, take your cow inside and feed them. This is so sad.”
Timaya also advocated for the adoption of ranching practices to prevent further damage to agricultural lands.
His comments have sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some supporters appreciated his call for action, others criticized his use of the term “Aboki,” viewing it as an ethnic slur. Critics also questioned the timing of his outcry, suggesting he should have spoken up earlier.
The issue of herders grazing cattle on farmlands has been a longstanding concern in various Nigerian states, leading to conflicts and economic losses. Several states have implemented bans on open grazing to address these challenges, but enforcement remains inconsistent.
