Eedris Abdulkareem’s “Seyi Tell Your Papa” Faces NBC Ban
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has prohibited Nigerian radio and television stations from airing Eedris Abdulkareem’s latest protest song, “Tell Your Papa,” citing its “objectionable nature.”
In a memo dated April 9, 2025, Susan Obi, the Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring at NBC, stated that the song violates Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code, which prohibits content deemed inappropriate or offensive.
“Tell Your Papa” directly addresses Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, urging him to convey the nation’s hardships to his father. The song highlights issues such as economic difficulties and insecurity, critiquing the administration’s performance.
Eedris Abdulkareem is known for his politically charged music, with previous works like “Jaga Jaga” also facing bans due to their critical stance on government policies.
