Supporters of Peter Obi, under the Obidient Movement, have issued a strong statement emphasizing that their leader does not engage in personal attacks or condone them. Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the movement, clarified that Obi’s response to the arrest and detention of Dele Farotimi was about raising legitimate concerns rather than resorting to personal vilification. This clarification was given in Abuja, pointing to a defamation case that involved encouragement and intervention from traditional authorities—not a show of ingratitude or pleading. Tanko stressed that the narrative suggesting Obi begged was a deliberate falsehood. He further highlighted that Obi focuses his attention and resources on education, youth entrepreneurship, healthcare, reforms in the almajiri system, and support for the underprivileged—not politics rooted in patronage.
The statement also addressed misinformation targeting Obi’s stance on national issues. For instance, claims about his involvement in controversial audio recordings or messages purportedly attacking Lagos residents were dismissed due to lack of credible evidence. Tanko argued that the spread of such narratives only serves those seeking attention through falsehoods. He underscored the movement’s commitment to truth over propaganda and service over selfishness.
