NSCDC officers killed in Edo
Stakeholders across Nigeria have called for urgent action following the brutal killing of eight officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State.
The officers were ambushed while on duty, sparking outrage and renewed concerns about the rising insecurity across the country. Reports indicate that the gunmen targeted the NSCDC patrol team in a violent attack that has since drawn condemnation from security agencies, civil society groups, and community leaders.
In a statement, the NSCDC Command vowed not to be deterred by the tragedy, stressing that its personnel remain committed to safeguarding lives and critical infrastructure nationwide. The Corps also urged the Federal Government to provide more resources and advanced equipment to frontline officers exposed to high-risk assignments.
Civil society organisations described the attack as “a national disgrace” and demanded a swift investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. They also pressed for greater inter-agency collaboration to stem the tide of violence that has claimed the lives of many security operatives.
Security analysts further warned that the repeated targeting of law enforcement officers undermines public confidence and emboldens criminal elements if left unchecked.
President Bola Tinubu and other key stakeholders are being urged to ensure that the families of the slain officers receive adequate support while measures are put in place to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
