Dangote vs NUPENG strike meeting with FG
The standoff between the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Dangote Group has intensified as the union insists on going ahead with its planned strike.
NUPENG, which has accused the Dangote Refinery of engaging in anti-union practices and poor labour conditions, is set to meet with representatives of the Federal Government and other stakeholders today in a last-minute effort to avert the industrial action.
Union leaders say the strike is necessary to protect workers’ rights, warning that any attempt to silence or intimidate members will be strongly resisted. They also accused the company of undermining labour laws by preventing employees from freely associating with unions.
The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has stepped in, calling for dialogue to prevent disruptions in the oil and gas sector. With the strike looming, fuel marketers and transporters have raised concerns over possible shortages and price hikes if no resolution is reached.
Industry analysts note that the outcome of today’s meeting will determine whether NUPENG proceeds with its strike or suspends action pending further negotiations.
