Council obtains GCE forms for indigent students
A local council in Nigeria has purchased General Certificate Examination (GCE) forms for 100 indigent students as part of its educational support initiative.
The council chairman said the gesture is aimed at giving underprivileged students the opportunity to further their education and compete on equal footing with their peers. According to him, the initiative will help reduce the number of school dropouts caused by financial constraints.
Beneficiaries were carefully selected from different communities, with priority given to students from low-income families. The council also promised to provide tutorial classes and learning materials to boost the students’ performance in the exams.
Parents and community leaders have lauded the effort, describing it as a timely intervention that will secure a brighter future for the youths. Education advocates also called on other councils and stakeholders to replicate the gesture in order to promote inclusive education.
