Kwara youths protest kidnappings
Youths in Kwara State took to the streets to protest the rising wave of kidnappings in their communities, blocking a major highway to draw government attention.
The demonstrators decried the frequent abductions along rural roads and highways, which they said had instilled fear and disrupted daily life. Many carried placards demanding stronger security measures and immediate intervention from both state and federal authorities.
Commuters were stranded for hours as the protest disrupted traffic, with some travelers forced to take alternative routes. The youths insisted that the blockade was necessary to highlight the dangers residents face and to push leaders into urgent action.
Security operatives were later deployed to the scene to restore order, though the protest remained largely peaceful. Community leaders have appealed to the government to provide more patrols, intelligence support, and protection for vulnerable villages.
