Tinubu compared to Trump
A former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Prof. Bola Akinterinwa, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as being “as intelligent and strategic as former U.S. President Donald Trump.”
Speaking in Lagos during a public lecture, Akinterinwa said Tinubu’s political maneuvers and survival instincts in Nigeria’s complex political landscape mirror the strategic resilience displayed by Trump in global politics.
“Tinubu, like Trump, understands the power game. He knows how to read people, negotiate, and deploy strategies that give him an edge,” Akinterinwa stated.
The former NIIA boss added that while the two leaders differ in style and governance contexts, both have shown an ability to navigate crises, maintain political relevance, and build strong loyalist bases.
His remarks have generated mixed reactions, with supporters of Tinubu welcoming the comparison, while critics argue that the parallel overlooks the challenges facing Nigeria under his leadership.
