INEC online voter pre-registration Nigerians
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that more than 6.2 million Nigerians have successfully completed their online voter pre-registration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to INEC’s latest update, the digital platform has recorded significant engagement from first-time voters, particularly youths and urban dwellers, reflecting growing interest in political participation.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, noted that while online registration has expanded access, registrants must still visit physical INEC centers to complete biometric verification and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“The response has been encouraging. However, we urge all who pre-registered to follow through with physical verification to ensure their names appear on the final voters’ register,” Yakubu emphasized.
Analysts believe the surge in online pre-registration could boost turnout in 2027 if logistical challenges such as PVC collection delays and registration center bottlenecks are effectively managed.
