Court declines Kachikwu motion against INEC ADC
The Federal High Court in Abuja has declined to grant an interim motion filed by the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2023 elections, Dumebi Kachikwu, against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the party’s leadership.
Kachikwu had approached the court seeking to stop INEC from recognising the current ADC leadership, which he accused of irregularities and misconduct. He also sought orders nullifying certain decisions taken by the party executives.
In its ruling, the court held that Kachikwu’s application lacked merit at the preliminary stage and that granting the motion could disrupt the party’s operations. The judge advised that the matter should proceed to full hearing where all parties would be given fair opportunity to present their cases.
Speaking after the sitting, Kachikwu expressed disappointment, insisting that he would continue to pursue justice and restore “internal democracy” within the ADC.
INEC and the ADC leadership welcomed the ruling, describing it as a vindication of due process.
The case has been adjourned for substantive hearing.
