Guardiola defends Haaland over Manchester City contract rumours
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has dismissed rumours suggesting that star striker Erling Haaland may leave the club soon, insisting that the Norwegian is “not stupid” to sign a contract he doesn’t intend to honour.
Guardiola made the remarks during a press conference ahead of City’s next Premier League fixture, addressing persistent speculation linking Haaland with a move to Real Madrid.
The Spanish tactician stated that Haaland remains committed to Manchester City and fully focused on helping the club achieve more success this season.
“Haaland is very happy here. He’s not stupid to sign a contract he doesn’t want to fulfill. He knows what he signed for,” Guardiola told reporters.
Haaland, who joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, has been instrumental in the club’s domestic and European triumphs, including their historic treble.
Club insiders say there are no ongoing talks about a transfer, reaffirming the striker’s long-term future at the Etihad Stadium.
