Police foil kidnap ambush in Delta, kill suspect, recover arms
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have foiled a kidnappers’ ambush, killing one suspect and recovering several arms and ammunition during a gun battle.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, the operation took place in Ughelli South Local Government Area after officers received intelligence on a planned attack by a notorious kidnap syndicate operating along the East-West Road.
The suspects reportedly opened fire on the police team, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire. One of the kidnappers was neutralized, while others escaped with gunshot injuries.
Recovered items from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, locally-made pistols, live ammunition, and charms believed to be used for protection during operations.
Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi commended the operatives for their swift response and urged residents to report anyone seen with gunshot wounds or suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of lives and property in Delta State.
