Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has shed light on why his administration placed strong emphasis on infrastructure renewal and transparent governance since assuming office. He said the two priorities were carefully chosen to reposition the state for economic revival, attract investment, and restore citizens’ confidence in leadership.
Speaking during a policy review session with state executives and development partners in Osogbo, the governor explained that years of infrastructural neglect and poor accountability had slowed Osun’s growth and weakened public institutions. His government, he said, decided from the onset to make openness, fiscal discipline, and people-centred development its guiding principles.
“We met a system where projects were executed without proper planning or accountability,” Adeleke said. “We had to restore order, rebuild infrastructure, and reintroduce transparency so that the people can see where their money is going. Our goal is a government that works for everyone — not for a few.”
Infrastructure revival across sectors
Governor Adeleke highlighted several ongoing projects, including massive road rehabilitation across local governments, reconstruction of dilapidated schools, and comprehensive upgrades to healthcare centres. He noted that the initiatives were not only aimed at improving service delivery but also at stimulating economic activities through job creation and community engagement.
The Osun Infrastructure Plan, launched in early 2024, covers strategic roads linking rural communities to urban centres, markets, and industrial corridors. Adeleke said the state was also leveraging partnerships with federal agencies and private investors to expand water supply, renewable energy, and digital connectivity in underserved areas.
Transparency and accountability
Beyond physical projects, the governor said transparency remains the bedrock of his administration. According to him, all major contracts are subjected to competitive bidding and public scrutiny to ensure value for money.
He added that the government’s digital budget monitoring system has made it easier for citizens and civil society to track spending, preventing leakages and corruption.
“We publish our financial statements regularly and make our procurement process open to the public,” Adeleke stated. “This is how democracy should work — when citizens can hold their leaders accountable.”
Building trust through inclusiveness
Adeleke also emphasized the role of inclusiveness in strengthening governance. He said his administration deliberately involved youths, women, and local community leaders in policy design and implementation to ensure that projects reflect grassroots needs.
He further noted that by maintaining transparency and citizen participation, Osun has regained credibility among development partners and investors who previously expressed concern over governance practices in the state.

Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the state’s development trajectory through responsible budgeting, strategic partnerships, and consistent evaluation of project outcomes.
“We are building a foundation that will outlive this administration,” he concluded. “Our vision is to make Osun a model of people-oriented, transparent, and sustainable governance in Nigeria.”
