NSCDC arrests fake lawmaker impersonation forgery Abuja
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a man pretending to be a federal lawmaker, along with three of his accomplices, in Abuja. The suspects, identified as Hassan Sani Jikan Mallam, Obeten John, Abubakar Mohammed, and Lucky Ndirika Emenike, were apprehended for criminal conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation.
According to investigations, Jikan Mallam posed as a member of the House of Representatives representing the Katsina Central Constituency. He allegedly presented forged documents, including official letters and identification cards, that falsely identified him as an elected lawmaker. The group also used rented vehicles and reportedly recruited a serving police officer to act as a security aide to make their scheme appear legitimate.
The suspects were said to have visited several ministries, embassies, and private organizations in Abuja while pretending to be government officials. They also attempted to submit visa applications at a foreign embassy using fake credentials. Their arrest came after they tried to arrange a meeting with the NSCDC Commandant General under the pretense of being members of the National Assembly.
Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their crimes, and various counterfeit documents were recovered from them. The NSCDC stated that the suspects would be charged to court once investigations are completed. The agency also warned Nigerians to be cautious and report anyone posing as a public official without proper identification.
