FCT Commissioner of Police redeploys DPO after assault video
The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Miller G. Dantawaye, has ordered the redeployment of a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) after a viral video showed him assaulting a man in Abuja. The video, which circulated widely on social media, captured the officer slapping and physically confronting the victim during what appeared to be a routine interaction.
In a statement issued by the FCT Police Command, the Commissioner strongly condemned the officer’s behavior, describing it as unprofessional and contrary to the core values of the Nigeria Police Force. He emphasized that such conduct will not be tolerated under his watch and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to upholding discipline, accountability, and respect for human rights.
The officer has been recalled to the FCT Police Headquarters pending the outcome of a formal investigation into the incident. According to the command, appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken once the investigation is concluded.
The Police Commissioner further urged members of the public to continue cooperating with the police while maintaining civility during interactions with law enforcement officers. He also encouraged residents to report any case of police misconduct through the designated emergency lines and complaint channels to ensure swift action.
