Police Arrest APC Secretary in Connection with Death of 45-Year-Old Woman in Yobe
The Yobe State Police Command has arrested the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Geidam Local Government Area over his alleged involvement in the mysterious death of a 45-year-old woman.
According to police sources, the suspect, whose identity has not yet been officially disclosed, was apprehended following preliminary investigations that linked him to the woman’s death, which occurred under suspicious circumstances late last week.
The victim, identified as Hajiya Falmata Mohammed, was reportedly found lifeless in her residence in Geidam, prompting neighbours to alert local authorities. Her body was said to bear signs suggesting possible foul play, though police have not yet confirmed the exact cause of death pending autopsy results.
Yobe Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrest in a statement released Monday, noting that the APC official is currently in custody and assisting investigators with vital information.
“Our officers have taken the suspect into custody for questioning. The investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to the woman’s death,” Abdulkarim said. “The command assures the public that justice will be served, regardless of the suspect’s political or social status.”
Sources close to the deceased family claimed that the APC scribe was among the last people seen with Falmata before her sudden death. However, police have urged the public to avoid speculation until a full investigation is concluded.
The APC leadership in Yobe State has also reacted to the development, describing the situation as “deeply troubling” and pledging full cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
“We are monitoring the investigation closely. The party maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward any act of violence or criminal conduct,” the state spokesperson said.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Geidam General Hospital morgue for autopsy, while police have intensified efforts to uncover possible motives behind the incident.
This development has sparked tension in the community, with residents calling for transparency and swift justice.
