Troops Neutralise Notorious Kidnap Kingpin “Amadu” in Kaduna Raid
Kaduna State, Nigeria — Nigerian troops have neutralised a notorious kidnapping kingpin known as “Amadu” during a security operation in Malafiya town, Atiku Ward of Jama’a Local Government Area, the latest in ongoing efforts to crack down on violent crime in parts of northwest Nigeria.
According to security sources, Amadu was the leader of a criminal syndicate that had terrorised communities around Malafiya and neighbouring areas with a range of crimes, including kidnapping, cattle rustling and armed robbery. He had been listed among the most-wanted criminals by security agencies due to his alleged involvement in high-profile offenses, including the killing of a businessman in September 2025 and an attempted abduction of a prominent local figure’s relative.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops carried out a targeted raid on January 25, 2026, aiming to dismantle the gang’s hideout. During the operation, there was an exchange of fire between soldiers and armed suspects, and Amadu attempted to flee the scene. He was ultimately neutralised in the ensuing gun battle.
Security officials said the raid was part of a broader push to weaken criminal networks that have contributed to persistent insecurity in parts of Kaduna State. Following Amadu’s neutralisation, troops conducted a search of the area and recovered a locally made pistol believed to have been used by the kingpin or members of his gang.
Since the operation, local security forces have maintained a heightened presence, conducting clearance patrols and confidence-building operations aimed at preventing the resurgence of criminal activity and reassuring residents of affected communities.
The neutralisation of Amadu is seen by analysts as a tactical success in the ongoing fight against kidnappers and bandits, even as parts of northwest Nigeria continue to face security challenges from criminal elements operating in remote hideouts and forests. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to continuing offensive operations and strengthening collaboration with local communities to enhance safety and stability.
