NECO Releases 2025 SSCE External Results with 71.63% Pass Rate
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, recording an overall pass rate of 71.63 percent.
NECO made the announcement in a statement issued at its headquarters, confirming that thousands of candidates who sat for the external examination across the country can now access their results. The council said the performance reflects a moderate improvement compared to previous years, attributing the outcome to better preparation by candidates and improved supervision during the examination process.
According to NECO, the SSCE External examination is designed mainly for private candidates and individuals who are not in the regular school system. The council explained that the examination was conducted nationwide under strict monitoring to ensure compliance with examination guidelines and to curb malpractice.
The Registrar of NECO stated that the results were released after a thorough marking and moderation process involving experienced examiners and subject specialists. He added that the council remains committed to maintaining the credibility and integrity of its examinations.
NECO also disclosed that a number of candidates were booked for various examination offences, including impersonation and cheating. The affected candidates’ results were either withheld or cancelled, in line with the council’s regulations.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the release of the results, urging successful candidates to proceed with their academic plans, including university admission or professional training programmes. They also encouraged those who did not meet the required pass mark to remain focused and explore alternative educational pathways.
Candidates are advised to check their results through NECO’s official result-checking platform or accredited cyber cafés. The council warned against patronising unverified agents who claim they can upgrade or alter results.
With the release of the 2025 SSCE External results, NECO has reaffirmed its role as one of Nigeria’s key examination bodies, alongside WAEC, in providing opportunities for learners to obtain recognised secondary school qualifications.
