Four Feared Dead as Rival Cult Groups Clash in Lagos
At least four people are feared to have been killed following fresh clashes between rival cult groups in parts of Lagos State, causing panic among residents and disrupting normal activities.
The violence reportedly erupted when members of two opposing cult groups engaged in a confrontation that quickly escalated into violent attacks. Witnesses said the clash occurred in the evening and involved the use of guns and other dangerous weapons.
Residents in the affected area said they heard multiple gunshots and saw young men running through the streets while armed. Many people reportedly stayed indoors, while shops and businesses closed early due to fear of stray bullets.
Local sources disclosed that several individuals were injured during the clash, while four persons were believed to have lost their lives. However, the exact number of casualties has not yet been officially confirmed by the police.
Security operatives were later deployed to the area to restore calm and prevent further violence. The police also began a search for those responsible for the killings and other acts of violence linked to the clash.
A police spokesperson confirmed that investigations were ongoing and said preliminary findings pointed to a long-standing rivalry between cult groups operating in the area. He warned that the command would not tolerate cult-related activities and would ensure that all suspects are brought to justice.
Community leaders condemned the incident and appealed to youths to shun cultism and criminal behaviour. They urged parents and guardians to monitor their children closely and discourage them from engaging in violent activities.
The latest clash has renewed concerns about cult-related violence in Lagos, especially in densely populated communities where such incidents often put innocent residents at risk.
Police patrols have since been increased in the affected neighbourhoods, while residents remain cautious as security agencies continue their operations.
