Davido Withdraws Custody Case Over Daughter Imade Following Hurtful Courtroom Comment
Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has withdrawn his custody battle over his daughter, Imade Adeleke, following an emotional and contentious exchange in court, sources report.
The singer took to his social media platform to announce that he was dropping the legal action, insisting that his intention was never to gain full custody of his daughter but rather to secure joint custody. He stressed that the case had achieved nothing but stress for those involved and had negatively affected the child.
Davido explained that his decision came after he became deeply upset during proceedings when a lawyer representing his ex-partner, Sophia Momodu, allegedly made a hurtful reference to the death of his late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke — a topic he described as a “low blow” and unacceptable within the context of the case. He said such a comment crossed personal boundaries and prompted his withdrawal from the fight.
In a series of emotional posts, the singer clarified: “I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade … so I don’t know why some people are celebrating… there’s nothing to celebrate.” He added that his daughter will grow up knowing he fought for her and urged everyone to move on.
The custody dispute had drawn significant public attention since Davido’s initial filing at the Lagos High Court seeking “unrestricted access” to his daughter, with both sides airing grievances in a high-profile legal contest.
His announcement to drop the case appears aimed at prioritising Imade’s emotional wellbeing over prolonged court battles amid ongoing co-parenting challenges between the music star and Sophia Momodu.
Davido has since called for peace and focus on his daughter’s future as the family moves forward from the public dispute.
