Oyo Man Found With Human Leg Escapes Mob Attack, Arrested by Police
Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have rescued a young man from being lynched by an angry mob after he was found in possession of what appeared to be a human leg in the Commercial Oroki area of Oyo town in southwestern Nigeria.
The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Garuba Aminu, was apprehended at about 8:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, after vigilant community members grew suspicious of his conduct and movements. Disguised as a scavenger and carrying a large sack containing empty plastic bottles, he reportedly drew the attention of residents who then searched his belongings and made the gruesome discovery.
According to the police spokesman, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, a cut lower right leg suspected to be of human origin was found inside the sack. Word quickly spread, and a mob gathered with the intent to lynch the young man on the spot.
Witnessing the escalating tension, a joint patrol team of police and security partners swiftly intervened, dispersing the crowd and rescuing Aminu from imminent harm. The suspected human part was recovered and secured as an exhibit for forensic analysis and further investigation.
Following his rescue, Aminu was taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough and discreet investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shocking incident.
The Oyo State Police Command has commended the vigilance and timely action of local residents but has also cautioned the public against taking the law into their own hands. Authorities emphasized that mob violence is unlawful and can obstruct the course of justice.
Residents have been urged to remain security-conscious and to promptly report suspicious activities or individuals to the nearest police formation to help prevent crime and ensure safety in the community.
