
Cable Thief Electrocuted in Anambra While Allegedly Vandalising Transformer
A suspected cable thief has reportedly been electrocuted while attempting to vandalise a power transformer in Anambra State.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred in the early hours of the day when the suspect allegedly tried to tamper with electrical installations in the area. Residents said they were alerted by a loud noise before discovering the victim lying near the transformer.
Sources within the community disclosed that the individual was believed to be cutting cables connected to the transformer when he was electrocuted. He was said to have died instantly due to the high voltage.
Local residents expressed concern over the persistent vandalism of public infrastructure, noting that such activities often result in prolonged power outages and financial losses for communities. They also warned youths against engaging in criminal acts that endanger lives and property.
Security operatives were reportedly notified and later arrived at the scene to remove the body and commence preliminary investigations. Authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
Transformer vandalism remains a recurring challenge in several parts of the country, with power distribution companies frequently reporting damage to facilities caused by cable theft and other forms of sabotage.
