Edo Adoption Scam: Government Shuts Illegal Orphanage and Arrests Proprietress in Major Crackdown
The Edo adoption scam has come into sharp focus after the Edo State Government uncovered an alleged illegal adoption scheme, leading to the closure of an unregistered orphanage and the arrest of its proprietress.
According to officials, the discovery was made through the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development following a formal complaint from a prospective adopter who reported suspicious activities during an adoption process. The case has since raised serious concerns about child welfare and the regulation of orphanages in Nigeria.

Preliminary findings indicated that the facility may have been involved in an organized adoption scam, where individuals seeking to adopt children were allegedly exploited financially under false pretences. The proprietress of the orphanage was arrested as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have stated that further inquiries are being conducted to determine the full extent of the alleged illegal activities, including whether there are links to broader child trafficking networks.
