Rapper Lil Durk has been found not guilty on all counts in his closely watched federal murder-for-hire trial in Los Angeles.
The Chicago rapper, whose real name is Durk Banks, was acquitted Friday after jurors spent three days considering the evidence. The verdict brings an end to a major federal case that had placed the Grammy-winning artist at risk of spending life in prison if convicted.
The case centered on allegations that Durk helped organize a 2022 attack targeting fellow rapper Quando Rondo, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman.
Prosecutors claimed the alleged plot was connected to the 2020 killing of Durk’s close friend and fellow Chicago rapper King Von.
What Prosecutors Alleged
Federal prosecutors argued that Durk used his money, influence and connections through his Only the Family, or OTF, collective to help arrange the attack.
The alleged shooting took place near a Los Angeles gas station in August 2022. The intended target, prosecutors said, was Quando Rondo.
However, the attack did not kill Rondo. His cousin, Saviay’a Robinson, was fatally shot during the incident.
Prosecutors relied heavily on testimony from people connected to the alleged plot. Several witnesses had previously faced charges themselves and later cooperated with the government.
Their testimony was a major part of the prosecution’s case against Durk.
Defense Attacked Witness Credibility
Durk’s defense team strongly rejected the government’s claims.
His attorneys argued that the rapper was not responsible for organizing the shooting. They also questioned the reliability of witnesses who testified against him after reaching plea agreements or seeking reduced sentences.
The defense focused particular attention on former Durk associate Kavon Grant. Lawyers argued that Grant had his own reasons for arranging an attack and was attempting to shift responsibility onto Durk.
Kacey Hester, another witness, also testified for prosecutors. Hester described his involvement in the 2022 shooting and connected Durk to the alleged operation.
The defense argued that such testimony should not be enough to prove Durk’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
Jury Deliberations Lasted Three Days
Jurors began deliberating after closing arguments and continued for three days before reaching their decision.
The case had attracted major attention from hip-hop fans and the wider entertainment industry. Supporters gathered outside the courthouse during the trial, while celebrities and media personalities also followed the proceedings closely.
Durk had remained in federal custody since his October 2024 arrest.
The charges included conspiracy, stalking-related offenses and murder-for-hire allegations connected to the fatal shooting.
The prosecution had argued that Durk’s alleged leadership made him responsible even though he was not accused of personally carrying out the shooting. The defense, meanwhile, maintained that the government had failed to establish his direct involvement.
What Happens to Lil Durk Now?
Although Lil Durk was found not guilty in this case, his legal situation is not completely over.
Federal prosecutors have said they intend to pursue a separate case involving racketeering, murder and firearms charges. A second trial is currently scheduled for October 5.
The government expressed disappointment with Friday’s verdict but said it planned to present its evidence in the next case.
For Durk, however, the acquittal represents a major legal victory.
He entered the trial facing the possibility of a life sentence. After three days of deliberations, the jury rejected the government’s case and cleared him of the charges before it.
