Rhys first took home the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie award for his performance in Netflix’s The Beast in Me.
He played Nile Jarvis in the series, appearing opposite Claire Danes. His victory came in a competitive category that included actors such as Oscar Isaac, Riz Ahmed, Jason Bateman and Charlie Hunnam.

Later in the evening, Rhys won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Mayor Tom Loftis in Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay.
The second victory made Rhys the first performer in Emmy history to win two lead acting awards during the same ceremony. The Television Academy also confirmed the record following the ceremony.
Rhys had already won an Emmy in 2018 for his performance as Philip Jennings in The Americans. His two victories in 2026 therefore completed an unusual sweep across the three major lead acting categories: drama, comedy and limited series.
