Mike Edwards Challenges Carter Efe to Boxing Fight After Speed Darlington Victory
Former Big Brother Naija star and professional boxer Mike Edwards has challenged Nigerian content creator Carter Efe to a boxing bout.
Edwards issued the challenge after Carter Efe defeated singer Speed Darlington in a celebrity boxing contest in Lagos.
The former BBNaija housemate urged Carter Efe to accept what he described as a “real challenge” instead of continuing to face other celebrity opponents.
Edwards said he had already challenged Carter Efe in the past and believes the time has now come for the proposed fight to happen.
Mike Edwards Revives Boxing Challenge
Edwards took to social media on Monday to remind Carter Efe about their previous exchange.
According to Edwards, he first challenged Carter Efe before the content creator’s first boxing match.
He said he told Efe to win his opening fight before they could meet in what he described as a potential “super fight.”
Edwards said the situation has changed because Carter Efe has now completed three fights.
He also pointed out that he has had only one fight during the same period.
“Fast forward — you’ve had 3 fights, I’ve had 1. So what’s the excuse now?” Edwards wrote.
Edwards Wants a Bigger Fight
The former BBNaija star told Carter Efe to accept the proposed matchup and give boxing fans a more competitive contest.
Edwards acknowledged that celebrity boxing is also a business and that fighters want to make money from their appearances.
However, he argued that fans should receive value for their money.
“Quit fighting these bums and accept the real challenge,” Edwards said.
He added that he understood Carter Efe was trying to make money from his fights but wanted the entertainer to take on a more competitive opponent.
The challenge comes as celebrity boxing continues to attract significant attention in Nigeria.
Carter Efe Recently Defeated Speed Darlington
Carter Efe recently recorded another victory in the “Chaos in the Ring” celebrity boxing series.
He defeated Speed Darlington by technical knockout at Balmoral Hall inside the Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The contest was part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
The referee stopped the fight after Speed Darlington stopped responding during the four-round contest.
The victory extended Carter Efe’s unbeaten record in the celebrity boxing series. He had previously defeated singer Portable by unanimous decision in May.
Carter Efe Wants International Opponents
Following his victory over Speed Darlington, Carter Efe said he wanted to move beyond local celebrity opponents.
The content creator named American boxer and YouTuber DDG as one potential opponent.
He also mentioned former world champion Floyd Mayweather as another fighter he would like to face.
Efe said he was tired of fighting opponents such as Portable and Speed Darlington and wanted to test himself against international names.
However, he also indicated that his next fight would come after his planned marriage to Taylor Jasmine.
Mike Edwards Contacts Promoters
Edwards also revealed that he had already spoken with Dr Eazy Adamu and Balmoral Promotions about staging the proposed fight.
That suggests the challenge may go beyond social media exchanges if the relevant parties can agree on the terms.
Edwards said he would first compete in Dubai on November 7 before turning his attention to a possible fight with Carter Efe.
He has already given the proposed matchup a name: “Machine Mike vs Carter Efe.”
A Potential Nigerian Celebrity Boxing Fight
The proposed Edwards and Carter Efe bout could become another major attraction for Nigerian celebrity boxing.
Carter Efe has built an unbeaten record in the “Chaos in the Ring” series, while Edwards has a professional boxing background.
Their different experiences could provide a new angle for the growing celebrity boxing scene.
For now, however, there is no confirmed date or official agreement for the fight.
Edwards has made his position clear and wants Carter Efe to accept the challenge.
The next move will depend on Carter Efe, promoters and the teams representing both fighters.
If the bout is eventually arranged, “Machine Mike vs Carter Efe” could become one of the most closely watched celebrity boxing matchups in Nigeria.
