Adams Oshiomhole urges politicians to stop election rigging
Senator Adams Oshiomhole has urged Nigerian politicians to stop rigging elections and arming thugs for political gain. Speaking during a Senate session in Abuja, the former governor of Edo State expressed concern over the rising violence and corruption that often accompany the electoral process in Nigeria.
Oshiomhole emphasized that true democracy cannot thrive when politicians manipulate election results or sponsor violence to secure power. He called on his colleagues in the National Assembly, as well as other political leaders across the country, to commit to fair and transparent elections that reflect the genuine will of the people.
According to him, the culture of electoral malpractice and political thuggery undermines public trust in governance and weakens the nation’s democratic institutions. He stated that only through integrity and accountability can Nigeria achieve stable and credible leadership that truly serves the interests of its citizens.
The senator further noted that political leaders should lead by example, promoting peace and fairness during elections rather than using money or violence to influence outcomes. His comments come amid ongoing debates about electoral reforms and the role of security agencies in ensuring free and fair elections.
Oshiomhole concluded by saying that Nigeria’s future depends on the choices made by its leaders today, urging everyone in public office to embrace honesty and patriotism in all political dealings.
