Apple Debuts iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max With Major Camera and AI Upgrades
Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing major upgrades to the camera, performance, battery life and artificial intelligence.
The new Pro models were announced on September 9 as Apple presented its latest generation of premium smartphones. The company says the new devices deliver its most advanced iPhone camera system yet.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both models will be available for pre-order from September 12, with sales beginning September 18.
New Camera System
One of the biggest changes is the camera system.
Apple has introduced a new 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. The technology allows the camera to adjust how much light enters the lens.
This can improve photos in different lighting conditions. It also gives users greater control over depth of field.
The company has added new Pro controls to the Camera app. Users can manually adjust settings such as aperture, shutter speed and white balance.
A histogram is also available to help photographers monitor exposure.
Apple says the changes are designed to give both everyday users and professional creators more control over their photos and videos.
A20 Pro Powers the New iPhones
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip.
The chip is built using a 2-nanometer process and includes a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and upgraded Neural Engine.
Apple says the A20 Pro provides up to 40% faster graphics performance than the previous generation. It also offers 50% more memory bandwidth.
The chip is designed to handle demanding games, advanced photography and on-device artificial intelligence.
A new vapor chamber also improves heat management. Apple says the redesigned system provides up to a 40% gain in sustained performance compared with the previous generation.
Longer Battery Life
Battery performance is another major focus of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro can provide up to 36 hours of video playback on eSIM-only models.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max goes even further, offering up to 45 hours of video playback.
The Pro models also support faster charging. Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50% charge in around 15 minutes using wired charging.
The Pro Max benefits from a larger battery and improved power efficiency.
Siri AI Comes to iPhone 18 Pro
The new phones also place a stronger focus on artificial intelligence.
The iPhone 18 Pro models run iOS 27 and support the next generation of Apple Intelligence features.
A redesigned Siri AI is rolling out in beta. Apple says the assistant can understand personal context, use onscreen awareness and take actions across supported apps.
Apple is emphasizing privacy as part of its AI strategy. Many AI tasks can run directly on the device, while Apple’s Private Cloud Compute system handles tasks that require additional processing power.
New Design Details
Apple has also redesigned the Dynamic Island on the Pro models.
The smaller and more useful version can display up to three Live Activities at the same time.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max come in four finishes: black, silver, glacier and the new burgundy option.
Both models will be available with storage capacities ranging from 256GB to 2TB.
Release Date and Price
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299.
Pre-orders begin September 12, and both phones will reach customers and stores starting September 18 in more than 65 countries and regions.
The launch comes alongside Apple’s first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, as the company expands its premium smartphone lineup.
With its upgraded camera system, A20 Pro chip, improved battery life and new AI features, the iPhone 18 Pro represents one of Apple’s biggest Pro upgrades in recent years. The iPhone 18 Pro Max adds even longer battery life for users who want Apple’s largest premium model.
