Police Uncover Suspected Cult Armoury and Arrest Two in Akwa Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has uncovered a suspected cultists’ armoury and arrested two individuals believed to be linked to the group’s violent activities.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, the raid was carried out following credible intelligence on criminal hideouts in the state. Items recovered during the operation included locally made firearms, live ammunition, machetes, and charms allegedly used by the cult members.
The two suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation, while police operatives continue a manhunt for other fleeing members of the group.
The Commissioner of Police assured residents that the Command remains committed to dismantling cult networks and curbing related violence across Akwa Ibom. He also urged communities to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information.
Civil society groups in the state have welcomed the arrests, noting that persistent cult violence has posed a serious threat to public safety and youth development.
