Cross River farmers ex-militants ₦800m grants
The Cross River State Government has disbursed ₦800 million in grants to farmers and ex-militants, as part of efforts to boost agriculture and enhance peace in the state.
Governor Bassey Otu, who launched the initiative in Calabar, said the support was aimed at improving food production, creating jobs, and providing sustainable livelihoods for youths who had embraced peace.
According to him, the beneficiaries were carefully selected from across the state, with funds allocated to support crop farming, aquaculture, and small-scale agro-processing.
“This intervention is to show that agriculture is not just about feeding ourselves, but also about ensuring economic stability and engaging our young people productively. For our ex-agitators, this is a second chance to build better lives,” Otu said.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting that the grants would help them expand farms, access inputs, and contribute to community development.
The state government assured that monitoring mechanisms had been put in place to ensure proper use of the funds.
