Delta ethnic crisis investigation
The Traditional Rulers’ Council in Delta State has called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to launch a thorough investigation into the recent ethnic crisis that has rocked parts of the state.
The council, in a statement after an emergency meeting, expressed concern over the growing tension between communities and warned that failure to act swiftly could escalate the conflict. The monarchs stressed that peaceful coexistence among ethnic groups has always been the backbone of Delta’s development and must be preserved.
They urged the state government to set up a fact-finding committee to identify the root causes of the clashes, hold perpetrators accountable, and recommend lasting solutions.
Governor Oborevwori was also encouraged to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation, with the council offering to mediate between the affected communities.
Residents have reported displacement and destruction of property due to the violence, fueling fears of a wider humanitarian crisis if the unrest is not quickly contained.
The appeal comes as security agencies intensify patrols in volatile areas to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
