Ekiti community threat to peace
Residents of a community in Ekiti State have raised concerns over a looming threat to peace, calling on the government and security agencies to intervene before the situation escalates.
Community leaders said the tension stems from lingering disputes over land ownership and traditional leadership, which have recently sparked clashes among factions. They warned that unless urgent steps are taken, the conflict could snowball into violence that disrupts social and economic activities in the area.
In a statement issued after an emergency meeting, the leaders appealed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji to deploy mediators and strengthen security presence in the troubled community.
“We have endured this crisis for too long. We want peace, but without government intervention, we fear things may get out of hand,” one elder stated.
The call comes amid rising concerns over communal disputes across parts of Ekiti, which have strained local security resources.
Authorities are yet to release an official response, but security operatives have been reportedly placed on alert.
