Floyd Samba Man City Debut: 17-Year-Old Scores Twice as Manchester City Rout Norwich
Floyd Samba enjoyed a dream Manchester City debut after the 17-year-old scored twice in a 5-0 victory over Norwich City in the Carabao Cup.
Samba started as the central striker and immediately showed why Manchester City have high hopes for their academy graduate. His two goals helped City reach the fourth round of the competition with a convincing win at the Etihad Stadium.
The result also extended City’s perfect start under manager Enzo Maresca to six victories in all competitions.
Samba Opens His Manchester City Account
Samba opened the scoring in the 29th minute.
Allan sent a dangerous cross into the penalty area, and Samba reacted quickly to meet it with a well-placed header. The finish gave the teenager his first senior Manchester City goal on his first-team debut.
Just three minutes later, Rayan Cherki doubled City’s advantage after being played through by Ayyoub Bouaddi.
Samba continued to cause problems for Norwich before halftime and nearly added another goal when he broke into the box, but the visitors managed to block his effort.
Teenager Scores Again
Samba did not have to wait long for his second goal.
In the 54th minute, Rayan Aït-Nouri found him on the right side of the penalty area. Samba controlled the opportunity and curled a composed shot beyond Norwich goalkeeper Daniel Grimshaw.
The second goal completed a memorable debut for the teenager.
Manchester City described Samba as the star player after the match, highlighting his movement and ability to trouble the Norwich defense throughout the game.
Allan Also Shines on Debut
Samba was not the only City player celebrating a first appearance.
Brazilian forward Allan also made his Manchester City debut and scored in the 48th minute. After moving into the Norwich penalty area, Allan cut inside before firing a low shot into the corner.
Cherki’s first-half goal and Ryan McAidoo’s late finish completed the 5-0 victory.
McAidoo, another teenage forward, came off the bench before scoring in the final minute of normal time.
City Make Changes but Stay Dominant
Maresca made 10 changes from the Manchester derby victory over Manchester United, giving several players an opportunity to impress.
Despite the heavily rotated lineup, City controlled the match and rarely allowed Norwich to create a serious threat.
Norwich did put the ball in the net through substitute Mohamed Toure in the second half, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
City finished with a clean sheet as goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli also made his debut.
Samba’s Family Connection
Samba’s performance carries an added storyline because he is the son of former Premier League defender Chris Samba.
The teenager has come through Manchester City’s academy and was given his first senior start with Erling Haaland rested for the cup tie.
His two-goal performance immediately gave City supporters another academy prospect to watch.
Manchester City Advance to the Fourth Round
The victory sends Manchester City into the Carabao Cup fourth round, where they will face Brighton & Hove Albion at home.
The match is scheduled for the week beginning October 26, although the exact date and kickoff time are still to be confirmed.
For Samba, however, the night will be remembered for his personal breakthrough.
At just 17, he scored twice on his first-team debut and helped Manchester City begin their Carabao Cup title defense with a 5-0 win. It was a performance that gave the young forward an early opportunity to make his name at senior level.
