Kano CP warns constables against corrupt practices and misconduct
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Salman Dogo Garba, has issued a stern warning to newly recruited police constables against engaging in any form of corruption, indiscipline, or unprofessional conduct while discharging their duties.
Speaking during a familiarization and orientation parade at the Kano Police Command Headquarters, CP Garba urged the officers to see their recruitment as a call to serve the nation faithfully, not as an avenue for extortion or abuse of power.
“Let me make it clear that the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has zero tolerance for corruption and any act that undermines public trust,” the commissioner stated.
He reminded the constables that the public perception of the police depends largely on their conduct in the field, stressing that discipline, integrity, and respect for human rights remain non-negotiable values of the Force.
Commitment to professionalism
CP Garba emphasized that the command would not hesitate to sanction erring officers, no matter their rank or connection.
“Any officer caught in acts of bribery, harassment, or misconduct will face immediate disciplinary action. We must earn the respect and confidence of the people we serve,” he added.
He further encouraged the constables to acquaint themselves with community policing principles and engage residents respectfully in their daily operations.
Strengthening policing in Kano
The commissioner also charged divisional police officers and area commanders to mentor the new constables and ensure they uphold the core values of honesty, vigilance, and service.
According to him, the newly deployed officers will be instrumental in enhancing security across Kano metropolis and its 44 local government areas, particularly in combating rising cases of theft, drug abuse, and street crime.
“We are intensifying patrols and intelligence-led policing to maintain peace and order in Kano. The support of law-abiding citizens is crucial in this effort,” CP Garba concluded.
