Large retailers such as Walmart and Target continued operating on their regular schedules, allowing shoppers to purchase groceries, grilling essentials, decorations and other holiday necessities throughout the day. Some restaurants shortened their hours, particularly Chipotle, where many locations closed during the afternoon. Franchise-operated restaurants also maintained flexibility in determining holiday schedules based on local demand.
While most retailers and restaurants remained open, many government services paused operations because Independence Day is a federal holiday. The U.S. Postal Service suspended regular mail delivery, most post offices were closed, and banks generally did not operate. UPS and FedEx also adjusted their pickup and delivery schedules, although certain critical services continued. Stock markets likewise remained closed in observance of the holiday.
