Meghan Markle to Skip Public Events During Prince Harry’s UK Visit
Meghan Markle will not make any public appearances during Prince Harry’s latest visit to the United Kingdom, according to multiple reports, despite earlier expectations that she might accompany him for some of his engagements. The Duchess of Sussex is expected to remain out of the public spotlight while Harry fulfills a series of charity commitments and promotional events connected to the 2027 Invictus Games and the WellChild charity.
Prince Harry arrived in the UK this week for several scheduled engagements, including a visit to Birmingham to mark the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games. The event celebrates the international sporting competition for wounded, injured and sick service personnel, a cause Harry founded in 2014 and has continued to champion. During the visit, he is also meeting former competitors, volunteers and supporters while promoting preparations for the next edition of the Games.
Earlier reports had suggested Meghan could join Harry at the Invictus Games countdown event. However, sources now say she has canceled plans to attend publicly and has no intention of making appearances during the current UK visit. Instead, Harry will carry out all official engagements on his own.
The decision is believed to be linked largely to ongoing security concerns that have affected the couple’s travel plans in recent years. Since stepping back as senior working members of the British royal family in 2020, Prince Harry has repeatedly argued that the level of security available to him and his family while in Britain is insufficient. Those concerns have influenced previous visits to the UK and continue to shape how the Duke and Duchess organize family travel.
Although Meghan is not expected to attend public engagements, reports indicate she may still travel to the United Kingdom privately with the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The possibility of a private family visit has fueled speculation about whether Harry, Meghan and their children could meet King Charles III during the trip. While visiting Birmingham Children’s Hospital, he met patients, families and healthcare staff, praising the work of WellChild nurses and sharing personal stories about his own experiences as a father. Harry revealed that his son Archie has become “obsessed” with LEGO, describing him as a talented builder during a conversation with one of the young patients.
Harry’s UK trip comes at a time of continued public interest in his relationship with the royal family. Questions remain over whether the Duke of Sussex will have opportunities to rebuild ties with senior royals following years of public disagreements and legal disputes involving security and the British media. However, neither Harry nor Buckingham Palace has indicated that formal family meetings are part of the current visit.
