Minister calls for investment in Nigeria’s creative economy
The Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has called for greater investment in Nigeria’s creative sector, emphasizing its potential to drive economic growth, job creation, and global recognition.
Speaking at the National Creative Economy Roundtable in Abuja, Musawa highlighted the vast opportunities within film, music, fashion, and digital arts, noting that Nigeria’s creative talent continues to attract international attention but remains underfunded.
“The creative industry is the new oil. If properly harnessed, it can rival traditional sectors in revenue generation and youth employment,” the minister said.
She urged both local and foreign investors to partner with the government in funding innovative projects, infrastructure, and capacity development initiatives that can position Nigeria as Africa’s creative powerhouse.
Industry experts at the event backed the minister’s call, stressing the need for improved access to financing, policy reforms, and global collaborations to unlock the sector’s full potential.
The Federal Government has pledged to implement policies that make the creative economy a key pillar of its diversification agenda.
