Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has cautioned against the spread of the “miracle money” gospel, warning that it is weakening Nigeria’s path to sustainable development. He explained that the growing trend of promoting instant wealth through religious messages misleads people, especially the youth, into believing that progress can come without hard work, innovation, or productivity.
Osinbajo stressed that no nation can grow by relying on shortcuts or unrealistic expectations. He pointed out that countries that have advanced did so through discipline, education, entrepreneurship, and the consistent application of effort. According to him, encouraging people to expect wealth without work damages the value system and discourages productivity, which is the true driver of national progress.
He also noted that Nigeria’s challenges can only be overcome when citizens embrace a culture of hard work, honesty, and accountability. He urged religious leaders to guide their followers towards skills acquisition, education, and entrepreneurship instead of focusing on quick financial miracles.
Osinbajo further emphasised that for Nigeria to achieve real development, the mindset of its people must shift towards innovation, industry, and value creation. He added that any doctrine that undermines these principles is harmful to both personal growth and national advancement.
