Former NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal has become the latest victim of an alleged international car theft and shipping scam, after his custom luxury Range Rover was reportedly stolen and nearly shipped overseas in a sophisticated criminal operation.
According to U.S. authorities, O’Neal’s high-end 2023 Range Rover Autobiography, valued at over $250,000, was taken from a storage facility in Los Angeles, California, earlier this month. Investigators say the thieves used forged documents and fake export credentials to disguise the vehicle as a “legally sold” car destined for shipment to West Africa.
Discovery of the Theft
The car was discovered days later during a routine customs inspection at the Port of Long Beach, one of the busiest shipping terminals in the United States. Customs officers reportedly noticed inconsistencies in the vehicle’s paperwork and contacted local law enforcement.
A police source revealed that the luxury SUV had been fitted with new license plates and altered vehicle identification numbers (VINs) — a hallmark of organized vehicle theft rings that specialize in exporting stolen cars to foreign markets.
“This was not your average car theft. It was a highly coordinated effort involving forged documentation, dummy companies, and insider knowledge of international shipping logistics,” an LAPD spokesperson said.
