Northern forum demands removal of service chiefs
A northern socio-political forum has called for the removal of Nigeria’s service chiefs, citing persistent insecurity across the region.
In a statement issued after its meeting, the forum expressed concern over the rising cases of banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping, which continue to claim lives and displace communities in the North. It argued that the current military leadership has failed to deliver meaningful results despite years of promises and heavy funding.
The group urged President Bola Tinubu to immediately restructure the nation’s security architecture by appointing fresh, competent officers with new strategies to address insecurity. It also called for more collaboration between security agencies and local vigilante groups to improve intelligence gathering and response time.
According to the forum, the safety of citizens and stability of the region should be prioritized over political considerations. It warned that failure to act decisively could worsen the humanitarian and economic crises facing northern states.
