Osun Takes Legal Action: Supreme Court Case on Withheld Allocations vs. FG
The Osun State Government has dragged the Federal Government before the Supreme Court over alleged withholding of statutory allocations due to the state.
In the suit filed by its legal team, Osun is seeking judicial intervention to compel the Federal Government to release all outstanding funds, arguing that the delay has crippled several development projects and strained workers’ welfare.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, in a statement through his spokesperson, described the move as a necessary step to defend the financial autonomy of states under Nigeria’s federal system. He maintained that no state should be deprived of constitutionally guaranteed resources.
Legal analysts say the case could set a major precedent in Nigeria’s fiscal federalism, as other states have also raised similar complaints in the past.
The Supreme Court is expected to fix a date for hearing, even as both parties prepare their legal arguments. Meanwhile, the Federal Government has yet to issue an official response.
