Police Arrest Three Suspected Vandals in Enugu
The Enugu State Police Command has arrested three suspected vandals for allegedly destroying and stealing public infrastructure materials in parts of the state.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the suspects were apprehended following a series of intelligence-led operations conducted by the Anti-Vandalism Unit in collaboration with local vigilante groups.
How They Were Caught
The suspects, identified as Ifeanyi Nnaji (32), Emeka Ude (28), and Chibuike Eze (35), were reportedly caught in the act of dismantling electrical installations and communication cables belonging to government agencies and private firms in Nsukka and Udenu Local Government Areas.
“The suspects were intercepted while attempting to transport vandalized electrical cables and metal poles in a mini truck. Upon sighting the operatives, they tried to escape but were quickly subdued,” the police spokesperson said.
Recovered items include several rolls of high-tension cables, metal rods, and cutting equipment used in the act.
Police Launch Investigation
DSP Ndukwe confirmed that the suspects are currently assisting police investigators with information that may lead to the arrest of other accomplices and the receivers of stolen items.
“We are committed to flushing out criminal elements destroying public property in the state. The command will ensure that all those involved in this criminal network are brought to justice,” he added.
Government Commends Security Efforts
Reacting to the arrests, the Enugu State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Gerald Otiji, commended the police for their swift action, noting that vandalism of public utilities has cost the state millions of naira in repairs and replacements.
“These vandals cripple community development and put lives at risk. We will continue to collaborate with security agencies to ensure that public assets are protected,” he said.

The police command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, emphasizing that public cooperation is vital to sustaining security and infrastructure protection efforts across Enugu State.
