Rhodes-Vivour defection to ADC
Former Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has reacted to criticism over his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Rhodes-Vivour said he duly informed Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, before making the switch, stressing that his decision was not taken in secrecy. He explained that his move was driven by the need to align with a platform that better reflects his vision and political aspirations.
Responding to accusations from Labour Party officials, Rhodes-Vivour maintained that his respect for Obi remains intact. He added that political realignments are part of democracy and should not be misconstrued as betrayal.
He further noted that his new political path will allow him to push forward policies on youth empowerment, governance reforms, and inclusive development.
Observers say his defection could impact Labour Party’s grassroots structure in Lagos, though Rhodes-Vivour insists he still shares common values with many of his former allies.
