Tay Keith’s Cause of Death Revealed
Grammy-nominated music producer Tay Keith died from an accidental drug overdose, according to an autopsy report from the Nashville Medical Examiner’s Office.
Tay Keith, whose real name was Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, was 29 years old when he died on June 18, 2026. He was found dead inside his Nashville apartment after police conducted a welfare check.
At the time, Metro Nashville Police said that foul play was not suspected. His cause of death remained unclassified while officials waited for the medical examiner’s findings. The newly released report has now provided more details about what happened.
Autopsy Found Several Substances
According to the medical examiner’s report, Keith died from the toxic effects of several drugs.
The substances listed included ketamine, mitragynine, 7-hydroxy mitragynine and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl. Mitragynine and the other related compounds are associated with kratom.
The report also found nicotine and ethanol in Keith’s system. The medical examiner classified the manner of death as an accident.
Reports from TMZ and local Nashville media said the findings were consistent with an accidental overdose. Officials did not indicate that another person caused Keith’s death.
No Foul Play Was Suspected
Keith was discovered by police during a welfare check at his Nashville apartment.
Authorities had previously said that they did not suspect foul play. That position is consistent with the medical examiner’s classification of the death as accidental.
The release of the autopsy results ends months of uncertainty surrounding the producer’s cause of death. His death initially shocked the music industry because of his young age and his major role in modern hip-hop.
