Thomas Partey Charged with Two New Counts of Rape Ahead of November Trial
LONDON — Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been charged with two additional counts of rape, British authorities confirmed on Thursday, adding to the serious legal troubles already facing the Ghanaian footballer.
The charges were authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and relate to a separate allegation dating back to 2020, involving one additional woman, according to official statements. The alleged offence was first reported to police in August 2025 as part of a new investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
The 32-year-old midfielder, who now plays for Spanish club Villarreal after leaving Arsenal when his contract expired in June 2025, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 13 March in connection with the latest charges.
Partey had already been charged in July 2025 with five counts of rape against two women and one count of sexual assault against a third, with those alleged offences said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022 while he was an Arsenal player. He pleaded not guilty to those charges at an earlier hearing at Southwark Crown Court, and a trial has been scheduled for 2 November 2026.
Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Partey has been granted bail with conditions, including restrictions on contacting the complainants and requirements to notify police of travel plans. His bail conditions have allowed him to continue playing professional football, and he is reportedly expected to be involved with Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Partey has consistently denied all allegations and through his legal team has maintained his innocence, stating that he looks forward to defending himself in court.
