
Niger State Mining Disaster: Five Women Killed in Site Collapse
Five women, including a pregnant woman, died in an illegal mining pit collapse in Budu village, Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State, on August 25, 2025, around 6:30 p.m. The victims, identified as Tani Abubakar, Farida Mustapha, Farida Sule, Khadijat Abdullahi, and Zainab Usman, were from Budu and Panbi villages. Security operatives exhumed the bodies and took them to General Hospital, Paiko, where they were confirmed dead.
The Niger State Police Command is investigating the incident, which highlights the dangers of unregulated artisanal mining in the region.
